Hello! My name is Joe Bohland, and I am originally from Muskegon, Michigan. I received a B.S. in Advertising/Public Relations from Ferris State University in 1990 and in 2012 received an M.A. in Social Science at the University of Michigan-Flint. I have worked in higher education/admissions for over fifteen years.
Some of the best features of the UM-Flint campus are our excellent faculty, great customer service, and a thriving campus life. Faculty interact with students in a small class atmosphere and get to know you personally, mentoring students on research projects that will directly impact their future careers. Beginning with the Admissions office, we provide applicants with outstanding guidance through the admissions process, then the Academic Advising staff-as well as Academic departments-help with class selection and selecting a major. There are activities for every student to get involved with outside the classroom with over 100 academic, social, and sports clubs on campus.

Hello, future UM-Flint students! Thank you for your interest in UM-Flint! I am the Recruitment Coordinator for UM-Flint Undergraduate Admissions, on Mott Community College’s campus. As a Global Career Development Facilitator, I know the value of higher education. I was a transfer student from Mott Community College, which gave me a great academic foundation to help make me a successful university student. While earning a bachelor’s and master’s at Oakland University, I started my career in high education by becoming a student leader in the Residence Hall, Orientation, and Admissions. In the past seven years, I've recruited first-year, transfer, and adult learners throughout the state of Michigan, with a strong focus in Genesee County. Working with students through the joy and stress of their transition from high school to a two-year college and then from a two-year college to graduation at a four-year University has been very rewarding. I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of your college experience!
Hi everyone! My name is Dayne Hopkins. I graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a BBA with a Marketing concentration and I am now back pursuing an M.A in our Applied Communications program. I've had the best of both worlds at UM-Flint by getting to be a student here, joining the Internationl Admissions team, and more recently joining the Undergraduate Admissions team! Through my experiences as a student and employee, I have been given so many opportunities to grow at UM-Flint. One of my favorite things about UM-Flint is that everyone on campus, staff, faculty, and students included, are always so welcoming and really make you feel like you are at home. I’m proud to represent the maize and blue and hope you get a chance to someday do the same!
Hello Future Students! My name is Lora Phelps. I graduated in 2011 with a Bachelors of Art in Communications from the University of Michigan-Flint. I came to the university as a freshman in Fall 2007 from Durand High School. I chose UM-Flint because I wanted the prestige of the University of Michigan, but preferred a smaller campus. As a student, I was able to become involved in many extracurricular activities including Greek Life, Club Sports, and Pre-Professional organizations. Through the relationships I had with faculty in my department and student affairs administration, I gained an internship in the Office of Student Life in Fall 2010. It was through that position that I found my passion for working in higher education.
The opportunities I was given as a student at the University of Michigan-Flint have shaped who I am as a professional. I enjoyed my time at UM-Flint so much that two years later I joined the Undergraduate Admissions Team. My goal as an Admissions Officer is to not only share what UM-Flint has to offer, but motivate students to continue their education and accomplish their goals! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding admissions!
Hi, my name Tiffny Rohner, and I am a University of Michigan-Flint Wolverine! I transferred from a community college to pursue a Bachelor in Business Administration here at the University of Michigan-Flint. As a non-traditional student, I found that I was able to get involved in all of the same organizations and activities as the traditional college student. In addition, I truly found the small class sizes and personal interaction with my professors at UM-Flint to be the key factors for my educational success. It was through the support of many of my professors that I felt encouraged to go on to obtain a Master of Social Science degree on campus. I've found the support system here to be critical in my success and many others. I hope that you will visit our campus to see all the aMazing things our institution has to offer. Please contact me if you have any questions! GO BLUE!
My name is Julie Westenfeld and I am proud to be an alumnus of the University of Michigan-Flint. I came to UM-Flint as transfer student and in 2003 I proudly earned my Bachelors of Art in History. I loved my time here as undergraduate, so much so that after being a stay-at-home mom for a number of years, I looked forward to coming back to work for the university. My best piece of advice for students entering into the university family is to take advantage of all that is available to you. You already know you are getting a top quality education, so join a student organization, be a part of our vibrant Greek Life, or participate in Student Government. Let your voice be heard. Also, make sure you take time to meet your professors. Visit them during office hours and don’t be afraid to ask for help. They are here for you! Participate in Campus Activities Board (CAB). Enjoy the free food and awesome entertainment they provide. Lastly, get involved in your community. Whether you volunteer here, in Flint or in your home town, reach out and make a difference in your neighborhood. Go BLUE!
