Why study Mathematics at the University of Michigan–Flint?

When you buy a car, follow a recipe, or calculate sports stats, you’re using math principles. Our goal is to not only see you succeed in the classroom, but help you build skills that relate to everyday life.
  • Options. UM-Flint offers seven concentration programs within the Mathematics degree. You can study math in depth or just enhance your knowledge for another program. Your Mathematics degree also prepares you to enter any number of competitive graduate programs if you choose to further your education.
  • Infinite Possibilities. Math majors are in high demand today in industry, government, education, and the business world. Work as a cryptologist and decipher secret codes. Become a market researcher and shape future advertising. No matter what your interests, math gives you the tools to live your dream.
  • Teach. Take your math degree one step further. Add a teaching certificate to your résumé and share your passion with the youth of tomorrow. Upon completing the coursework and taking the certification test, you will be certified to teach math to students in grades 7-12.
  • Resources. Get involved. Join one of the many clubs and organizations on campus, including The Student Union for Mathematics (SUM). Get to know other students in your major, attend math-related events, form study groups and have fun.
