Tips From Other Parents

At The University of Michigan-Flint, we're here to help parents and students get acclimated to college life.  See what the parents of some of our current students have to say about how we helped them in the admissions process:

Rob McColl, Howell, MI (parent of Rob McColl, Freshman majoring in Pre-Med):
“The Alumni Reception was a great event for us. We were able to meet with a faculty member from the Biology department and get more information on where to start and what courses Rob should take.”

Patti Schenkel, Imlay City, MI (parent of Mikal Schenkel, Freshman majoring in Business):
“We worked on the pre-orientation together. The online instructions were easy to follow and the steps we received in the mail were very helpful.”

Karen Arnould, Flushing, MI (University of Michigan-Flint Registrar and parent of David Arnould, Freshman majoring in Computer Information Systems):
“The Academic Advising and Career Center made it very easy for my son to register for Freshman Orientation. Everything was completed online, even the placement exams. With all the activity that goes on at the end of the school year for high school seniors, having the ability to get ready for college in such a convenient format was extremely helpful and stress-free.”

Mary Marks, Montrose, MI (parent of Ashley Marks, Junior majoring in Education):
“The Admissions Packet provided us with a good timeline of when we needed to do everything. While Ashley was fairly self sufficient, I used the packet to remind her of important deadlines she needed to keep. It was really helpful and kept us on track.”

Dave and Laurie Mayer, Owosso, MI (parents of Alumni, Jenny Richardson (Mayer), Education ‘05 and current student Josh Mayer, Sophomore majoring in Pre-Pharmacy):
“The activities that Jenny and Josh were invited to prior to the start of classes were really helpful. Both Jenny and Josh were able to get to know the campus, other students, and faculty at the events that Admissions held. It was a great opportunity to get their questions and ours answered. It helped Josh having an older sister who already knew the campus. But even for him, working on campus in the Admissions Office has been a great experience. Both Jenny and Josh love that UM-Flint offers one on one contact with the faculty teaching the courses. Also, the small class size has been beneficial for both of our children.”
