The Africana Studies Program has been beneficial for me as an undergraduate student, educator, and staff member at the University of Michigan-Flint. The cultural history of people of African descent has an exceptionally diverse richness, and the program connects you to another world of literary works by African authors. As an African American male teacher in the K-12 system, I found myself incorporating African/African American studies into the core curriculum for the demographic population I was serving. Therefore, I would strongly recommend any individual pursuing a teaching career in an urban or diverse school district to acquire the Africana Studies Certificate.
