As much as possible, the Department of Africana Studies offers study abroad opportunites to Africa. The trips are designed to open the door for students into African cultures through direct participation and observation.  Spending time in Africa and interacting with the host communities, participants engage in intensive academic learning activities.  Prior to departure, students participate in  lectures and discuss selected topics on African cultures, literature, history and politics.  While on the trip, they attend lectures and discussion groups; visit museums, historic sites and market places; and widely interact with the people. A trip to Ghana is planned to take place in May 2014.
