University of Michigan-Flint

School of Education and Human Services Alumni Affiliate

School of Education and Human Services Alumni Affiliate meets every second Wednesday of the month at 5:00pm in the Alumni Room of the University Center.

WHAT IS SEHSAA?
The purpose of the School of Education and Human Service Alumni Affiliate (SEHSAA) is to act as a voice for our alumni. We advocate on behalf of the educators and social workers who are graduates of University of Michigan-Flint.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN!
The SEHSAA gives you the opportunity to network with your peers, reconnect with professors, and learn about what is going on with the University and its students and what you can do to help.

WHO CAN JOIN?
Any University of Michigan-Flint Alumni who have graduated with a degree in either Education or Human Services.

IS THERE A FEE?
There is no fee or membership dues.

WHAT DOES A BOARD MEMBER DO?
As volunteer leaders, board members attend meetings and help make important decision on what events/tasks the Affiliate will take on. The members must be able to work together, listen to the needs of the University of Michigan-Flint’s SEHS Alumni and act as a team to provide opportunities of interest to those alumni. Members promote the University in their communities and encourage outstanding students to attend the University.

OUR MISSION
The University of Michigan-Flint School of Education and Human Services Alumni Affiliate will support the personal and professional development of our students and alumni while contributing toward the goals of the School of Education and Human Services, the University of Michigan-Flint Alumni Society and the University of Michigan-Flint.

GOALS
One of the goals of SEHSAA is to establish a scholarship fund that would benefit students pursuing careers in education or social work. A second goal is hosting a conference called “Summit on Community Response to Urban Youth” that will offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and graduate credits.

SUCCESS
The Affiliates most recent success was a book drive for the Westwood Heights School District which has been adopted by the University of Michigan-Flint.

A letter from the chairperson, Clara Blakely

Greetings!

We invite you to Spring into action and get involved with the University of Michigan-Flint School of Education and Human Services Alumni Club!

The purpose of the SEHS Alumni Club is to act as a voice for our alumni. We advocate on behalf of the educators and social workers who are graduates of UM-Flint. Some of our activities include:

· The SEHS Alumni Club is devoted to service to the community. We recently held a book drive for the Westwood Heights School District which has been “adopted” by UM-Flint.

· We are in the process of establishing a scholarship fund that would benefit students pursuing their careers in the fields of education or social work.

· Members of the SEHS Alumni Club participate bi-annually in the Graduation Celebration for new graduates of the School of Education and Human Services.

· Currently facilitating a conference for CEU’s for teachers and social workers on the topic of Urban Youth issues.

There is no fee to join the SEHS Alumni Club, and there are no membership dues. This is an opportunity for you to network and be involved with UM-Flint as the campus celebrates the opening of student housing in Fall 2008.

Reconnect with your fellow alums and professors. Learn about the latest news at the university. Your involvement is key to the success of the club, and our future alumni. I look forward to meeting you this spring!

Go Blue!
