I decided to come to UM-Flint after working almost 3 years for a company that sells tax research in Ann Arbor, MI. I already had a BS in Psychology from another university, but I felt like I could be doing more with my life. I initially considered returning to school for a degree in Nursing, applying to UM-Flint and another university. The service that I received from UM-Flint while making my decision to pick a university really helped me to make UM-Flint my choice. After spending some time in the Nursing program, my interest in Social Work was piqued. After meeting with the staff members and faculty--particularly Ms. Ella Moore, Dr. Kathleen Woehrle, and Professor Charles Bailey—I felt inspired and knew that UM-Flint was the place for me.
I will most fondly remember being a part of the UM-Flint community. When one is a student at UM-Flint, they are someone, not just a number. Faculty and staff give students ample opportunity to get to know one another. Being able to network and become part of the UM-Flint team through my work study at the Student Development Center allowed me to gain the knowledge I needed for my future career goals. It also allowed me to not only assist my fellow students, but it helped me to be a part of the friendly service that UM-Flint provides its students. I will always treasure being welcomed as a full member of the UM-Flint team.
I am currently enrolled at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare in Overland Park, KS. I plan to obtain my Master’s degree in Social Work in May of 2008. My practicum is at the University of Kansas Hospital Inpatient Psychiatric Unit in Kansas City, KS, working under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker assisting patients in need of acute psychiatric care. I also am employed as a student assistant for School of Social Welfare at KU. I presently reside in Kansas City, MO.
