M-Club of Greater Flint Distinguished Member Award
In 2003, the Board of Governors voted to establish the Distinguished Alumni Award. The Award will be presented to a member or members of the U-M Club of Greater Fling who have given freely of their time and effort to and for the club. Although more than one recipient can be selected in one year, the M Club Board of Governors is not required to make an annual decision
This award is presented to an individual who has earned regional and/or international recognition by significant accomplishments in business or professional career and/or significant human service to community, state or nation.
Winner: Dr. Robert Soderstrom '72 MD
Dr. Bob is a longtime member of the club and has supported it generously through the years. He is the author of the “Big House,” a story about the life and legacy of Fielding H. Yost, and the building of Michigan Stadium. Dr. Soderstrom has donated the proceeds from the sale of his book to the U of M Club of Greater Flint to be used for scholarship purposes. He freely gives of his time, attending not only Flint Club functions but also those of other clubs around the country, sharing his stories about writing the book. Lloyd Carr is quoted as saying, “If you have an interest in the history of college football and especially University of Michigan Football, Dr. Robert Soderstrom has written a well researched story about Fielding H. Yost, college Football in the 1920s and the building of Michigan Stadium.”
