Albert C. Price

Interim Dean

Professor Price joined the faculty of UM-Flint in 1980 as an Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor, with tenure, in 1985, and to Professor in 1994.  He received a B.A from Edinboro State University in 1973, an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1975 and 1980, respectively.  Professor Price’s major research and teaching interests involve the intersection of Public Law and Public Administration.  His articles have been published in top-tier peer-reviewed journals such as the American Political Science Review, Social Problems, the Journal of Criminal Justice, Justice System Journal, Academic Medicine, and the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.

Professor Price has served as MPA Director for 24 of the 33 years the program has existed and continuously since 2001.  He has been the Pre-Law Advisor and Director of the Law and Society Minor since 1994.  Dr. Price has been involved in nearly all levels of faculty shared governance processes at UM-Flint.  He served two terms on the Chancellor’s Advisory and Budget Priorities Committee and twice chaired the committee.  He also chaired the Provost’s Advisory Committee.  Dr. Price also served as the Chair of the Faculty Assembly and instigated the change to transform the university governance structure to become the Faculty Council.  He was elected to a full term on the CAS Executive Committee.

Roy Barnes

Associate Dean

Professor Barnes received his B.A. degree from Pomona College in 1982, his M.A. degree from Mississippi State University in 1985, and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995.  He joined the faculty at the University of Michigan-Flint in 1996 as an Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor, with tenure, in 2002.

Since joining the faculty at the University of Michigan-Flint, Professor Barnes has served as Assistant Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences from 2004 to present.  Concurrent with his Assistant Dean duties, Roy has also served as Coordinator of General Education for the University since 2010.  In addition, he has been a member of the General Education Curriculum Advisory Committee, Academic Assessment Committee, and Human Subjects Review Board since 2010, 2002-09 and 2011, and 2004, respectively.

Professor Barnes’ research interests are in the areas of interlocking corporate directors, social network analyses and political sociology.

Susan Gano-Phillips

Interim Associate Dean

Professor Gano-Phillips received her B.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1988, and her M.A. degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991 and 1995, respectively.  She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan-Flint in 1994 as a Lecturer cum Assistant Professor, was appointed as Assistant Professor in 1995, and was promoted to Associate Professor, with tenure, in 2000.  Professor Gano-Phillips served as Director of the Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching from 2003-07, Fulbright Scholar in General Education at the City University of Hong Kong in 2008-09, and Acting Assistant Dean, College of Arts and Sciences during 2010.  She was promoted to Professor in 2011 and served as Chairperson in the Department of Psychology in 2012-2013. 

Professor Gano-Phillips’ research interests are in the area of General Education reform and institutional change.  She has published one book, A Process Approach to General Education Reform (2010) and over a dozen refereed articles.  She has also made over 30 conference presentations, and delivered almost 50 professional development workshops.

Rhonda Broadworth

Administrative Assistant Intermediate

Rhonda is involved with a wide variety of programs and committees:
Academic Standards Committee: handles all questions about the petitioning process and required information, including interpretation of university policies and procedures; academic misconduct and academic deficiencies.
Dean’s List:  handles posting the Dean’s List on the Dean’s Office bulletin board and sending letters to students
Dean’s Office forms:  processes grade changes, extension requests
Honor’s Recognition Program:  organizes/manages CAS Honors Recognition program inviting students and staff and including creating written program for event, room scheduling and ordering refreshments for program, greets students and their families and instructors to event
Curriculum Committee: catalog changes; handles all procedures for curricular changes including new/revised courses and programs requests; 
Peer Facilitator: job postings, hiring, timekeeping.
Process LEO Lecturer 1 job postings;
Non-secretarial staff and Work Study timekeeping duties.

Jami Caulkins

Administrative Specialist

Jami Caulkins joined the CAS team in January 2012 and works as an Administrative Specialist serving faculty and staff in most HR related issues.  She also coordinates the faculty teaching loads, LEO appointments, and the LEO review schedule.  Jami processes LEO salaries and special stipends for all faculty.

Amy Hartwig

Communications Specialist

Amy Hartwig is the Communications Specialist for the University of Michigan-Flint College of Arts and Sciences. She works with all CAS departments and the college itself to tell the exciting stories of faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Amy earned her BA in English from UM-Flint, graduating as a Maize and Blue Scholar in May 2013. She worked in the publishing field for over 13 years before joining CAS in May 2014. Sheena Lewis

Assistant to the Dean

Sheena Lewis, Assistant to the Dean, is a 2008 UM-Flint graduate with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Communications. She spent the first five years of her career on the Ann Arbor campus in the College of Engineering, coming back to the Flint campus in the spring of 2013. Among her most important duties are keeping the Dean’s calendar, supporting the Executive Committee and Council of Chairs, keeping the Promotion and Tenure process on track, being the point of contact for Tenure Track and LEO III new faculty searches, preparing official memos, and sending a lot of reminders. With a penchant for learning the newest technology, she is always working at creating and improving CAS digital file systems and processes. In her spare time she enjoys taking classes, mentoring students, reading, cooking, gardening, and camping with her husband and French bulldogs.

Lora Priebe

Accountant Associate

Lora Priebe is a University of Michigan-Flint Alumni, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, with Honors, in 2012. Lora is currently pursuing her Master's in Public Administration, Non-Profit Organizations, with an expected graduation date of May 2016. She joined the CAS team in April 2013 as the Accountant Associate and enjoys the many facets of training and working with CAS financials.

Highlights of Lora’s job duties include: processing the CAS Travel and Hosting – Pre-Authorization and Funding form as well as Moving/Relocation expenses for CAS; review and process PeoplePay forms; Concur delegate/reconciler for PCard holders within the CAS Dean’s office; performs analysis and review of departmental financial transactions and works with department staff to take corrective action; support CAS staff and assist department chairs in financial areas, as needed; monitor and allocate endowment earnings for CAS departments; produce all financial reports needed (CAS Organization Budget Status, Statement of Activities, Gross Pay Registers, etc.); reconciliation with eReconciliation and Business Objects statements; assist with budget preparation, projects, and transfers.
