A Message from President Coleman
Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,
I am pleased to announce that I will recommend Susan E. Borrego to be the next chancellor of the University of Michigan-Flint.
Dr. Borrego currently serves as vice president for enrollment management, planning, and student affairs at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She will begin her new role August 1, pending approval by the Board of Regents at its April 17 meeting.
Dr. Borrego comes to UM-Flint with an impressive background in higher education administration, including strong advocacy for student affairs and diversity. In her current role, she has been integral to developing a new strategic plan, rebranding and marketing the university, as well as developing and implementing a strategic enrollment plan. She also oversaw student affairs and intercollegiate athletics, and coordinated the development of a veterans services office for the campus.
A native of Michigan, Dr. Borrego holds a Ph.D. in education from Claremont Graduate University.
I am grateful for the diligent work of the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee that helped lead to the selection of Dr. Borrego. The group, chaired by Susan Gano-Philips, interim associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of psychology, along with the executive search firm of Korn/Ferry International, was thorough and thoughtful in its work.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Borrego and her partner Mary Boyce to the UM-Flint community.
Mary Sue Coleman
