Provost Search

New Provost named

Dear Campus Community:

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Gerard Voland has accepted the position of Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Michigan-Flint, pending approval by the University of Michigan Board of Regents.  Dr. Voland will also hold the title of Professor of Engineering within the College of Arts and Sciences. He will assume his duties on July 1, 2010.

Dr. Voland is currently Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science, Director of the Center for Industrial Innovation and Design, and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.  His body of work is exceptional. Dr. Voland led his college through a highly successful accreditation process, and significantly increased the number of full-time faculty.  During his professional career, he has secured millions of dollars in funding for both research and educational initiatives.  In addition, he is the author of three books, and numerous peer-reviewed articles.  He brings with him a wealth of experience that will be essential to moving our university forward in the years to come.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Provost Search Committee, led by Dr. Tom Wrobel.  I was impressed with the thoroughness and dedication members of the committee showed during this lengthy process.  A special thanks to Dr. Vahid Lotfi and Chris Waters who once again have served the campus admirably during this transition.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Voland to the University of Michigan-Flint this summer.
