Beta Alpha Psi is a national honors fraternity for
accounting, finance, and information systems majors, collectively known as
Financial Information Professionals. The Eta Xi Chapter of Beta Alpha
Psi was established in 1988 at the University of Michigan – Flint.
Beta Alpha Psi – Eta Xi Chapter has its own
constitution and bylaws that comply with the requirements set forth by the
national organization. The national office also regulates the activities
and events in which we participate. In addition, as a recognized student
organization on the University of Michigan - Flint campus, we must meet
UM-Flint Student Government requirements each semester.
Service requirements are a common thread between the
BAY National Office and UM-Flint
Student Government. Service projects must have beneficiaries other than
Beta Alpha Psi members.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is one example
of Eta Xi’s service projects. Each February, Eta Xi participates in VITA
for the greater Flint, Michigan community. Eta Xi provides income tax
assistance to the community, while Eta Xi members benefit from hands-on
experience in preparing simple tax returns. In the end, the primary
beneficiaries of VITA services are the lower-income taxpayers who need
assistance filing forms and may not be able to pay for tax preparation
services.
Our chapter has opportunities to participate in service
activities all year, though we recruit and initiate new members only in the
fall and winter semesters.
