You’ve worked hard to get your bachelors degree in biology/chemistry, so what to do now…. the answer is whatever you want.  A biology degree from the University of Michigan – Flint will give you the skills and knowledge to make you a competitive applicant wherever you may choose to go.  Students from the University of Michigan – Flint go on to be quite successful in graduate school, medical school, dentistry school, and pharmacy school and in the biotechnology field. 

            The laboratory courses and lecture environment place students in an open and close working relationship with faculty.  Lecturers are friendly and available for after-lecture question and explanation sessions as well as general consultations.  Laboratory courses are second to none at the University of Michigan – Flint.  Lab instructors are extremely competent and the lab designs give students hands on skills that will prepare them for whatever they may do.  Students learn to think as scientists and apply techniques used in labs throughout the world.  Instructors have received a great deal of positive feedback from students who went on to a variety of fields mentioned below.

Graduate School:

          Students considering graduate school should begin looking into their areas of interest as soon as possible.  There are programs catering to almost any area of interest around the country and world.  Each program has different requirements but all will require you to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).  The test is broken up into general and subject versions.  The general is offered several times a month but the subject is offered only on selected dates and is not required by all programs.     

          Tips for students applying to Graduate Schools

Medical School:

          Students considering medical school should begin preparation as soon as possible.  Medical schools look favorably on students who offer their time to volunteer (preferably in the medical field) and who take the time to observe a doctor at work.  The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is a standardized and very long test required by all medical schools.  Begin studying far in advance and if you feel the need, consider a preparatory course if available. 

Tips for students applying to Medical Schools

Dentistry School:

          Students considering dental school should begin preparation as soon as possible.  Dental schools look favorably on students who offer their time to volunteer and who take the time to observe a dentist at work.  The Dental Admissions Test (DAT) is a standardized test required by all dental schools.  Begin studying far in advance and consult the pre-dental club for further information.

          Tips for students applying to Dental Schools

Pharmacy School:

          Students considering pharmacy school should begin preparation as soon as possible.  Look into prospective pharmacy schools as soon as possible to determine what they require and schedule an advising appointment with a chemistry professor.  The Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) is a standardized test required by all pharmacy schools.  Students should apply to the pharmacy program of choice by the end of their third semester.   

          Tips for students applying to Pharmacy Schools

Biotechnology Field:
