Club
Constitution
Article
1:
Name-
The
name of the organization shall be the University of Michigan-Flint
Philosophy
Club, hereafter known as the Organization.
Article
2:
Purpose-
The
purpose of the Organization is to establish an environment that fosters
intellectual reflection and discussion of philosophical topics amongst
students
with common interests. The Organization will serve as both a social
club and
academic society; members will be able to participate and become
involved in
both social and academic events and functions. Ultimately, our network
of club
members will serve to help one another to promote questioning and
thinking
critically.
Article
3:
Membership Requirements-
Members
must be students at the University of Michigan-Flint and in good academic standing, as defined by
the
University. Students must declare
interest in being affiliated with the organization.
A student is considered a member after having
attended at least three (3) Organization events/functions.
Article
4:
Officers-
Elected
at the first meeting of the fall term for the duration of the school
year by a
majority vote for each office.
President-
The
President shall schedule meetings and events and preside over the
business conducted
at meetings. The President shall also
stand as a liaison between the Organization and the officers and
officials of
the University of Michigan-Flint.
Vice
President-
The
Vice President shall assist the President in all matters of
Organization business
and should the President be unable to fulfill an obligation to the
Organization, he/she shall assume the President’s position.
Secretary-
The
Secretary shall record all business conducted at meetings and notify
members of
meeting times and Organization updates.
Treasurer-
The
Treasurer shall have the responsibility of keeping records of the
Organization’s financial account. It
shall be the Treasurer’s responsibility to keep all copies of the
Organization’s financial transactions.
Article
5:
Faculty Advisor-
The
Advisor shall serve as a guide to Organization members, answer
questions and
give advice. The Advisor will be
selected by a majority vote at the first meeting of the fall term.
Article
6:
Meetings-
Are
to be held twice a month during major semesters and are called by the
President. Additional meetings may be
scheduled by the President as needed. Quorum
is required to conduct any official business. Quorum
shall be defined as 1/2 of the current
membership.
Article
7:
Removal Procedure-
The
issue of removal may be introduced at any meeting.
A ¾ vote of the active membership is required
to remove any member from the Organization.
Article
8:
By-laws and Amendments-
Amendments
to the constitution or by-laws may be proposed at a general meeting and
require
a ¾ vote for adoption. Any amendments to this
constitution must be brought before Student Government Council before
approval.
By-laws of the Organization may not in any way conflict, or diminish
the
authority of this constitution.
Article
9:
Ratification-
This
constitution must receive a ¾ vote of the membership to be
adopted.
By-Laws
A.
Membership-
Members must be students (full- or part-time) at the University of
Michigan-Flint in a good academic standing. All
members are eligible to participate in all club
functions.
B.
Dues-
The cost of expenses for going to Organization events will be split
evenly
amongst attending club members. There are no formal dues.
C.
Member
Duties- As a group, the Organization is to decide what trips, events
and
functions to sponsor or participate in. All
members are to help with fund raising. Members
are expected to
participate in Organization events and volunteer to help if needed.
Failure to
fulfill member duties is grounds for removal from the Organization.
D.
Order
of Business- Meetings are held twice a month. The
date of the next meeting will be decided at the
previous
meeting. Any business that needs to be
addressed before the next meeting will be conducted by the President,
notifying
all members of the issues. The place and
times of the meetings will also be determined at the previous meeting. All active members are expected to attend at
least one meeting a month.
E.
Trip
Guidelines- Organization members in good academic standing will be
eligible to
attend all Organization events. The
expenses of the events will be shared evenly by all participants.
F.
In the
event that an Organization official is no longer available or qualified
to hold
his/her position, the next-highest in rank will assume the needed
position
(e.g. Vice President would assume the position of President, Secretary
would
assume the position of Vice President, etc.).
