Club Sports are considered Sponsored Student Organizations (SSO) at the University of Michigan-Flint. Club Sports are registered in collegiate leagues and regularly compete in various state, regional, and national contests and tournaments against clubs for other colleges and universities. Club Sports are entitled to the same privilege listed within the Student Organization Handbook and the Club Sports Handbook. Furthermore, Club Sports are responsible to follow all policies and procedures within these handbooks.
Club Sports are an integral component of the programming and activities offered by the department of Recreational Services. The goal of the Club Sports program is to create a safe and fun environment that encourages positive UM-Flint experiences through competitive sports. Participation is another means of providing balance to a student's academic, personal and social life along with the development of teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership skills, The program aims to provide equal opportunities to participate, regardless of gender, age, race, creed, religion, national origin, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
At the University of Michigan-Flint, (UM-Flint) sport-based clubs that do not compete at the collegiate leage level are considered Voluntary Student Organization (VSO)
