UMF/MCC Art Educational Partnership
Several Foundation Level Art Courses are taught on the campus of Mott Community College and students are able to register for those as UM-Flint classes through an Educational Partnership.
Certain Foundation art courses, including Drawing 1 & 2, 2D and 3D Design, ART Education 101 and 102, and the Art History Survey Sequence are, by agreement, offered in the Visual Arts and Design Building on the MCC Campus and are not taught on this campus. This agreement gives our students access to two great facilities and two fine faculties!
Before Fall 2007, UMF ART students took these classes as part of a Consortium arrangement. This arrangement proved to be administratively difficult for both students and schools. In the Fall of 2007 we worked together to develop the Educational Partnership agreement that is now in place.
The new streamlined process:
- Fill out a University of Michigan-Flint and Mott Community College Educational Partnership Course Form. This form will allow you access to courses taught on the MCC campus for four years! The form is available in the CVA Office (4116 WM S. White Building), and the Advising Center in the Pavilion.
- Return the completed form to the office of the Department of Communication and Visual Arts, 4116 WM S. White Building.
- Identify the courses taught at MCC in which you would like to enroll.
- Stop by the CVA Office or call Sharon Beam, CVA Secretary at (810)766-6679. She will issue you permission to register for the course(s).
- Register using the same process you would for any UMF course.
- Attend at MCC (following their academic calendar).
For many students, there are distinct advantages to taking this required coursework through the Educational Partnership. In some cases, it might be financially advantageous for prospective students to attend MCC first and then transfer to UMF with the required coursework already completed. See the Department of Communication and Visual Art for information on the Educational Partnership with Mott Community College or if you just wish to discuss your options. Remember, art courses taken at MCC will still transfer.
