Frances Willson Thompson
Frances Willson Thompson loved books.
According to her family, she was happiest with a book in hand, and had a large library in her home. It is strikingly fitting that the University of Michigan-Flint Library bears her name.
Through her fondness for books, abiding interest in history, and her strong belief in education, Mrs. Thompson was committed to her community. Mrs. Thompson made many gifts to the University of Michigan-Flint, and those gifts have created lasting icons of the campus including the Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching, The Frances Willson Thompson Critical Issues Forum, and of course, the Thompson Library.
The passion for reading and exchanging ideas continues with the Thompson Family who have provided funding for the Common Read at the University of Michigan-Flint. We are grateful for their continued support and the legacy of generosity they have created at the University of Michigan-Flint.
