Former Congressman Mickey Edwards is a lecturer at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is also a vice president of the Aspen Institute and director of the Institute's Rodel leadership program for elected public officials. Edwards served as a member of Congress for 16 years, during which time he was a senior member of the House Republican leadership as chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, a member of both the House Appropriations and Budget Committees, and ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Foreign Operations.
In the summer of 2011, Edwards's article, "How to Turn Republicans and Democrats into Americans," was featured in the "Big Ideas" issue of The Atlantic. The UN and World Bank later reposted it to their respective websites. His book based on the same concept, The Parties versus the People: How to Turn Republicans and Democrats into Americans, due for release in summer of 2012, describes the current dysfunction in government, the causes for it, and ten specific steps to fix it.
