Mission Statement: Engineering & Mechanical Engineering

The B.S. program in Engineering and the B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering will produce engineers who are technically competent, creative, literate, as well as globally and socially aware. We strive to ensure our graduates are successful in globally competitive environments. The program vision is to be one of the best engineering education programs in Michigan while providing students, staff, and faculty with rewarding and satisfying collaborative experiences. The mission is to provide our customers with total confidence in our educational and professional expertise and to treat everyone with fairness and dignity. The program provides a cross functional, hybrid, multifunctional experience with related information and knowledge that is effectively transfered to industry and society without the need for extensive retraining.

Program Objectives for the Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Programs

• Graduates will be able to develop innovative solutions to engineering problems, conduct experiments, and analyze and interpret data using modern engineering techniques and tools.
• Graduates will be gainfully employed in engineering and other related professions or pursuing graduate education.
• Graduates will be able to communicate effectively when working in teams.
• Graduates will be able to apply high ethical standards to their work.
• Graduates will engage in lifelong learning and professional development throughout their career.

Educational Outcomes

1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.
2. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
3. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
