Who We Are

The Africana Studies Anti-Racism Coalition (ASARC) is a multi-racial, anti-racist group of students who actively educate against racist, sexist, and homophobic act on campus. The organization has as its chief goal to develop accountable leadership among students with the values, knowledge, and skills to work effectively towards undoing racism. Racism is recognized as the most insidious ill of our society. The tolerance of which gives rise to both zealotry and other social injustices including anti-Semitism, homophobia and sexism.

Membership and Meetings

Membership is open to any University of Michigan-Flint student who wishes to join the cause of anti-racism in our community. Regular membership meetings are held the first Friday of the Month at 2:00 p.m. during the Fall and Winter Semester. During the Spring and Summer terms meeting are held on the first Friday in May, June, and August.

What We Do

ASARC organizes workshops, host speakers, and develop community projects. We believe that community involvement is but one aspect of the fight against racism and that working together helps to forge understanding among people. Additionally, ASARC sponsors:

  • A tutoring program for Northern High School
  • An annual program featuring renowned anti-racism activists
  • Collaborative projects with other campus organizations
  • Undoing Racism Workshops
  • An annual dinner for student and community groups/agencies to encourage the development of community workers-students who would transform their communities and society
