Who We Are
The Africana Studies Anti-Racism Coalition (ASARC) is a multi-racial,
anti-racist group of students who actively educate against racist,
sexist, and homophobic act on campus. The organization has as its
chief goal to develop accountable leadership among students with
the values, knowledge, and skills to work effectively towards undoing
racism. Racism is recognized as the most insidious ill of our society.
The tolerance of which gives rise to both zealotry and other social
injustices including anti-Semitism, homophobia and sexism.
Membership and Meetings
Membership is open to any University of Michigan-Flint student
who wishes to join the cause of anti-racism in our community. Regular
membership meetings are held the first Friday of the Month at 2:00
p.m. during the Fall and Winter Semester. During the Spring and
Summer terms meeting are held on the first Friday in May, June,
and August.
What We Do
ASARC organizes workshops, host speakers, and develop community
projects. We believe that community involvement is but one aspect
of the fight against racism and that working together helps to forge
understanding among people. Additionally, ASARC sponsors:
- A tutoring program for Northern High School
- An annual program featuring renowned anti-racism activists
- Collaborative projects with other campus organizations
- Undoing Racism Workshops
- An annual dinner for student and community groups/agencies to
encourage the development of community workers-students who would
transform their communities and society
