Assistant Professor
The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Michigan-Flint
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant
professor level, starting Fall 2003. The position is in political
science or economics with a specialization in African Diaspora politics
or economics. Teaching responsibilities include the area of specialization
and introductory courses in Africana studies. Development of additional
courses in area of expertise will be encouraged. A Ph.D. in political
science or economics with an emphasis on Africana studies is required.
A commitment to interdisciplinary programming is preferred.
The Department of Africana Studies prepares students for the ever-demanding
need to engage and function in a diverse society. It is a multi-disciplinary
and inter-disciplinary field of study, which provides a well-rounded
education in the tradition of the liberal arts and sciences.
The University of Michigan-Flint is a regional campus of the University
of Michigan with an enrollment of approximately 6,500 students situated
in modern facilities on a forty-two acre river front site in downtown
Flint. The population is a mixture of traditional and non-traditional
students. UM-Flint offers day, evening and weekend and on-line classes.
