“The power of creativity in propelling our
economy is a fundamental building block of
our state’s transformation.”
So said Governor Granholm in a recent address.
Local arts organizations are doing their part to
help revitalize downtown Flint. Are you doing
yours?
The University of Michigan-Flint Department
of Theatre and Dance is one of seven theatre
organizations in LOFT – the League of Flint
Theatres – working to provide the activities and
community events that will make our vision of
a “cool” city come true. LOFT, the growing
number of art galleries, the fine institutions
of the Flint Cultural Center and the stalwart
business leaders who have anchored or added to
our downtown development are moving Flint
toward a positive tipping point. But buildings,
businesses and box-offices need people to make
them truly come alive. Supporting home-grown
arts and artists through attendance at events is
an act of faith in Flint’s future. Won’t you join
us this season?
