The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Michigan-Flint is committed to liberalizing the perspectives of the general college student it encounters through the teaching of its courses in General Education and the BA in Theatre, and to the responsible and professional preparation of its students in its BFA in Performance and B.S. in Design and Technology.  Furthermore, we commit ourselves to the responsibility of enriching the lives of persons in our community by producing challenging, thought-provoking and entertaining experiences that reflect community diversity and explore critical values, concerns and issues.

Our productions feature all-student casts and crews, and provide opportunities for advanced students to practice skills in stage direction and realized design.  Our program is small enough to provide regular and consistent faculty/student interaction and multiple opportunities on and off stage for all of our students.

Graduates regularly find work in the profession and allied fields.  The skills acquired in our programs - initiative, creative problem-solving, presentation, teamwork and project management, to name a few - are highly transferable to multiple career paths.  Department of Labor statistics project that, while overall employment will grow by 17.7% by 2014, jobs in the arts, entertainment and recreation fields will grow by 25% or 460,000 new jobs.
