Annual Fund Grants

The Annual Fund Grant Program is closed. We are not currently accepting applications for Annual Fund grants. The Annual Fund Program is undergoing several administrative and programmatic changes that will be announced soon.

Support of the Annual Fund at UM-Flint allows support of students, faculty, and staff through Annual Fund Grants.  Funds can be requested from the Office of Development and Alumni Relations to support academic, creative, technical, and research endeavors. This may include expenses for travel, conferences, and equipment.

Following are frequently asked questions related to Annual Fund Grants.

Who can apply for Annual Fund Grants?

Faculty, staff, and undergraduate/graduate students.  Students must be enrolled at the time of the application and at the time of the project. 

Individuals or groups may apply more than once per academic year, however, consideration will be given to first time applicants.

How do I apply for an Annual Fund Grant?

Grant request forms should be completed and submitted to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, located on the 10th floor of the Northbank Center.  Requests can also be mailed to: Development and Alumni Relations,Attn: Annual Fund Grants,303 E. What is eligible for funding?

Research, events, honorariums, department purchases, and special projects are eligible for funding. Grants range from $50 - $500.

What is not eligible?

Annual Fund Grants will not be awarded for projects already paid for through pre-existing scholarships. 

Annual Fund Grants will not be awarded to assist with personal expenses associated with a project such as additional activities (ex. movies, plays), excursions, and non-essential materials. Non-essential materials include, but are not limited to, toiletries, telephone usage, calling cards, photography expenses, clothing, souvenirs, and all other items not essential to the successful completion of a project as determined by the Annual Fund Grant Committee.

Most course requirements, such as text books, are not eligible for annual fund grants.  

Student applicants requesting funding to attend a conference must apply for a Fran Frazier Student Travel Scholarship, and know the status of the application, before applying to the Annual Fund. Visit application and deadline information.

What materials must accompany an application?

All applications must include:

  • A summary of the project
  • Preliminary budgets
  • Appropriate departmental chartfields for fund transfer
  • Report of the department's available gift funds (applicants must consider individual department funding sources prior to submitting an Annual Fund Grant request form)

What is required once a project is complete?

Applicants receiving Annual Fund Grant money are required to submit a report within two weeks after the completion of the project.  This report must include a summary of the project outcomes, a detailed budget, and copies of relevant receipts, brochures, and pamphlets. 

Failure to submit this report by the deadline will affect an applicant's eligibility to receive future funding. Individuals receiving awards will be asked in the future to consider making a contribution to the Annual Fund.

When are awards released?

Annual Fund Grant Requests will be reviewed on a monthly basis and are approved by the Provost.
