Imagine: The UM-Flint Difference Capital Campaign

Kristen Skivington

Message from the Vice Chancellor

What a season of giving this has been!  The University of Michigan-Flint is so grateful to so many for the generous gifts we have received over the last several months to our capital campaign, “Imagine:  The UM-Flint Difference.”  These gifts have moved us closer to our campaign goal of $30 million and closer to realizing the priorities set for the campaign in providing support for students, faculty, and programming.

As you know, what makes a gift to this campaign truly special is that it is, in fact, the gift of education, a future, to a deserving Mid-Michigan student.  Scholarships remain the number one focus of this campaign.  Even if we reach the $30 million mark, there will still be deserving students who will not be able to attend this university.  We cannot let up now.

With the economic uncertainty within the automotive industry, the need for a more highly educated workforce has never been greater.  The need for more career alternatives and the choices afforded by a liberal arts education has never been greater.  The need for funds to support scholarships and other efforts to increase opportunities for our citizens has never been greater.  With your help, UM-Flint can do its duty to help more individuals, and this entire community.

By giving to the capital campaign, you are increasing access to the type of education only the University of Michigan can offer.  We thank you for your support thus far, and encourage you to discuss this important need with your friends and families.  Imagine new solutions.  Together, we all will make a difference.

Thank you for your ongoing support of UM-Flint.

Chancellor Emeritus Leads Campaign Efforts With Gift

Chancellor Emeritus Juan E. Mestas announced his personal contribution to the capital campaign: Chancellor Emeritus Mestas made a bequest of $500,000 to further the Juan E. Mestas Scholarship for Academic Excellence and Community Engagement.  He will also make $50,000 in contributions to the scholarship over the next four years.

Originally established by Mestas in 2001, the scholarship is awarded to UM-Flint students who meet specific academic standards and "who have distinguished themselves for their community engagement, participating as students in activities that address the needs and improve the quality of our neighboring communities."
