Understanding Race Theme Semester Kick-Off
“Race: The Power of An Illusion” Film and Discussion

Wednesday, January 16th
5:30 p.m.
KIVA
Joining our colleagues in Ann Arbor, the Understanding Race Theme Semester seeks to engage the campus community in an exploration of race.  Events throughout the semester will focus on core analytical approaches to race – social construction, intersectionality, racism and inequality.

Race: The Power of An Illusion challenges one our most fundamental beliefs: that humans come divided into a few distinct biological groups.  This definitive series is an eye-opening tale of how what we assume to be normal, commonsense and even scientific, is actually shaped by our history, social institutions and cultural beliefs.
