Michigan Test for Teacher Certification - 2010-2011

Students are reminded that the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) will be offered Saturday, April 16, 2011.

 

The early registration deadline for this date is:  Friday, March 4, 2011.  There are also late and emergency registration deadlines (additional fees apply). Please see website link below for specific details.

 

 

Basic Skills Test ~

 

This test is a prerequisite for admission to the education program.  The test, once passed, will not expire.  The Basic Skills Test consists of three sections: Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Students considering an application in September 2011 for Winter, 2012 entry are encouraged to take this test if not done so already.  The test fee for Basic Skills is $48.

 

Other Tests~Subject Area/Content Tests

 

Elementary and Secondary Education Students who have already been admitted to the teacher certification program at the University of Michigan-Flint, are encouraged to check with their appropriate academic advisor for further information about when and what other tests should be taken, i.e. subject area tests, to assure proper certification/licensure.

New in 2010-2011~

  • A new Speech (004) test will be implemented as of October 2010.
  • Computer-Based Testing-Beginning in November 15, 2010, computer-based testing will become available for selected tests.  Information regarding tests and testing dates are now available on the MTTC Web site at www.mttc.nesinc.com.  The basic skills and Elementary Education test can be taken using this method.  ADDITIONAL FEES APPLY.
  • Beginning in December 2010, computer-based testing will become available for Basic Skills and Elementary Education tests. Computer-based testing (CBT) for these tests is available during select six-day testing windows at Pearson Professional Centers in Michigan and across the nation. Refer to "Test Dates for Computer-Based Testing" for a list of the testing windows currently open for registration.
  • Registration for computer-based testing is available only on the Internet by selecting "Register Now" on the MTTC Web site. The fees for computer-based testing differ from fees for paper-based testing. See "Test Fees and Payment Policies for Computer-Based Testing" for complete test and registration fees.
  • For more detailed information about computer-based testing, refer to "Computer-Based Testing." On the MTTC Web site, you may use the "Computer-Based Testing" tabs at the tops of pages to select content specifically related to computer-based testing.
  • Online Practice Tests Available Now- Online practice tests for the MTTC Elementary Education and Basic Skills Tests will be offered beginning in Fall 2010.  The practice tests will be similar in length to the actual tests.  The test questions included in the MTTC online practice tests are designed to provide an introduction to the nature of the test questions included on the MTTC tests. The practice tests will include multiple-choice questions representative of the actual test, and the practice test for Basic Skills will also include a constructed-response assignment.  A score report with detailed information about your performance on the practice test multiple-choice questions will be provided.  For the Basic Skills constructed- response assignment you will be provided with supplemental materials, including scoring scales and scored sample responses, to help you assess the quality of your writing.  The fee for the online practice tests will be $29.
