Information for Pre-Education Students
Know your deadline dates!!
January 1-15 for Fall Admission
September 1-15 for Winter Admission
- Admission to the program (Applications accepted in January & September)
- Student Teaching Applications/Student Teacher Meetings
- Basic Skills and Subject Area Testing through MTTC
- Registration
- Drop/Add deadlines
- Applying for audit/graduation
Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)
Register and take the MTTC (Basic Skills Test) (required for admission)
Pre-Education courses that should be taken during your freshman year:
PSY 100 (required for admission, grade of "C" or better)
EDM 121 (elementary concentrations only) (required for admission)
SCI 125 OR 126 (elementary concentrations only)
A course in United States history (see list of acceptable courses)
A course in the history or culture of an American minority group (see list of acceptable courses)
A course in the study of the English language (see list of acceptable courses) (elementary concentrations only)
Education Courses that may be taken before being admitted to the program:
The following education classes can be taken without being admitted to the Education Program! Make sure they are applicable to your program before registering and that you meet pre-requisites!
EDE 123/MUS 180; ECE 120/MUS 185; EDE 433; EDR 430, EDR 435; EDR 437
Appropriate courses in your major/minor subject areas to qualify your admission to the Education Department at the time of application. Please consult your advisor and university catalog for proper sequencing of coursework.
