English Language Program at the University of Michigan-Flint

 

  
Taiwanese students Piei-Chen Lee, Ke-Chin Yan (Matt), Chen-Hse Yeh, Yow-Shiuan Tsai (Alex), and Wei Lu enjoy learning about other cultures represented on the UM-Flint campus at the 2008 Winter Festival.  Music, holiday sweets and an international cookbook were part of the festivities.The International Student Center celebrates the ELP students and the completion of their language proficiency tests in December 2007.  Many of the students go on to take academic courses.

Mission Statement

The mission of the University of Michigan-Flint English Language Program is to provide high-quality intensive English language instruction and academic preparation to English language learners seeking admission to UM-Flint degree programs, or other colleges or universities, or who wish to improve their English for business, personal or professional reasons.

  • Improve your academic English to enter college or university

  • Develop your professional Engish language skills for employment

        •  20 class hours per week (four hours a day five days a week)
        •  Morning and afternoon classes
        •  Reading, writing, grammar, lecture listening, speaking and group discussion
        •  Low-intermediate, intermediate, high intermediate and advanced levels
        •  Computer and internet technology activities
        •  Cultural activities and field trips on and off campus
        •  Campus housing, apartment-style, available (from Fall 2008)
        •  F-1 international student visa application support


The English Language Program (ELP) is for students with no TOEFL score or a TOEFL score below admission requirements or who want to study only English. Conditional admission to University of Michigan-Flint degree programs is possible for qualified students.
