H1N1 Vaccination Clinic Schedule
We are pleased to announce that due to the hard work and coordination of the Urban Health and Wellness Center (UHWC), the University has received a limited supply of H1N1 flu vaccination (both live, attenuated intranasal vaccine and inactivated flu vaccine shot) and has scheduled several H1N1 flu vaccination clinics here on campus.
The vaccination will be FREE (while the supplies last) for enrolled students and employees of the University of Michigan – Flint that are among the eligible target priority groups identified by the Genesee County Health Department (GCDH), the State of Michigan and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Family members of employees are not currently eligible. Please check with your local health department or health care provider.
The scheduled H1N1 vaccination clinic dates and times are as follows:
· Tuesday, Nov 10, 5-7 pm @ First Street Residence (only H1N1 nasal vaccine)
NOTE: this clinic is for students living in the residence hall.
· Friday, Nov 13, 1-6 pm @ Recreation Center (Seasonal, H1N1 Nasal Spray, and H1N1 flu shot are all available)
· Tuesday, Nov 17, 3 - 6 pm @ Recreation Center (H1N1 Nasal Spray, and H1N1 flu shot)
· Friday, Nov 20, 3 - 6 pm @ Recreation Center (H1N1 Nasal Spray, and H1N1 flu shot)
· Tuesday, Nov 24, 2-4 pm @ Recreation Center (H1N1 Nasal Spray, and H1N1 flu shot)
STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES MUST PRESENT THEIR VALID UM-FLINT MCARD IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE VACCINE
To learn more the specific target priority groups and who is eligible to receive either the live, attenuated intranasal vaccine and inactivated flu vaccine shot please see specific criteria below:
HINI Nasal Spray Clinics
Only the following individuals can receive the live, attenuated intranasal vaccine (LAIV) or Flu Mist vaccine. They include healthy people who are:
· Children and young adults 2 through 24 years of age.
· People 25 through 49 years of age ONLY if they live with or care for infants less than 6 months of age.
· Health care or emergency medical personnel (under 50 years of age).
The nasal spray vaccine cannot be given to people with the following health conditions:
· Pregnant women;
· People at higher risk for complications from influenza, including those with chronic heart or lung disease, such as asthma or reactive airways disease; people with medical conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure; or people with illnesses that weaken the immune system, or who take medications that can weaken the immune system;
· Children younger than 5 years old with a history of recurrent wheezing;
· Children or adolescents receiving aspirin therapy,
· People who have had Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare disorder of the nervous system, within 6 weeks of getting a flu vaccine,
· People who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs or who are allergic to any of the nasal spray vaccine components.
H1N1 Flu Vaccine Shot Clinics
Recommended populations to receive inactivated flu vaccine shot include healthy people who are:
· Pregnant
· Who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age
· Health care and emergency medical personnel
· Anyone from 6 months through 24 years of age
· Anyone from 25 through 64 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions or a weakened immune system
· As more vaccine becomes available, these groups should also be vaccinated: Healthy 25 through 64 years.
The Inactivated vaccine is not approved for the use in the following populations:
· Anyone with fever or respiratory illness until 3 days after symptoms are gone
· Anyone with allergy to any part of the vaccine, including eggs and gelatin.
· Previous life-threatening allergic reaction after a dose of seasonal flu vaccine,
· Anyone with a history of Guillan-Barre Syndrome
· Anyone with known or suspected immune system problems

Future H1N1 Vaccinations and Clinics
Although, the initial arrival of the H1N1 flu vaccine has been received in limited quantities, we anticipate more vaccine to continue to be distributed from the State and County through the community. The University will continue to make the vaccine available either through additional clinics or through the UHWC. Additionally, continue to check the GCHD website for other vaccination clinics scheduled near your home.
