Frances Ann Frazier Student Travel Scholarship

Fran died Nov. 30, 2001 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Her loving spirit lives on through the Frances Ann Frazier Student Travel Scholarship, which is intended to help fund students' participation at local, state, national, and international conferences.

Frances Ann "Fran" Frazier was a longtime UM-Flint employee. She worked in the Theatre, and Political Science departments during her three decades of service to the University, including 22 years as the English Department secretary. Fran strongly encouraged UM-Flint students to seek and seize both educational and job opportunities. Through a significant endowment of approximately $800,000, Fran continues to influence students' development and lives for years to come.

Joanne Sullenger, UM-Flint Vice Chancellor for Development said, "Fran's love for learning, commitment to our students and faculty, and longstanding support of the University contributed to her interest in making this planned gift to establish an endowment at UM-Flint that will support students' participation in local, state, national, and international conferences. The English Department and our students were like family to Fran, and this gift represents a loving legacy in gratitude to and respect for all she received from them. This student travel fund will enhance students' lives and education experiences for perpetuity."

The Office of the Chancellor and the Office of Development hosted a tribute to celebrate Fran's life and acknowledge her gift Monday, October 14, at 3:00 p.m. in the memorial garden, adjacent to the ground floor of the F.W. Thompson Library where there are memorial plaques and lilac bush (her favorite) in her honor.
