FAQ

How will I know if I am assigned an interview?

A confirmation email will be sent to you upon registering for an interview session.  Applicants will receive a phone call, postcard and email reminder one week prior to their interview session and are encouraged to respond as quickly as possible if changes need to be made.

What information does the interviewer have about me?

The panel of interviewers receive the name of the applicant, the high school name, and applicant contact information as provided on the application. Additionally, interviewers will have basic information on each applicant such as desired major, GPA and/or extra-curricular activity involvement.

Where and when are interviews conducted?

Interviews are conducted on the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint.  Room locations are designated for each session and directional maps will be included when confirmation emails are sent.  Interviews are 30 minutes in length.  Reservations for interviews are on a first come first served basis.  Lodging information is available for those traveling from a distance.  Please contact the Promise Scholar Program staff for questions or more assistance at 810-762-3365.

How should I prepare for the interview?

Since the interview is meant to be a formal conversation, proper preparation is needed.  Applicants should prepare for the interview as they would a career opportunity. There is no set list of questions that interviewers are required to ask, and each interview will be unique. Prior to the interview, applicants may want to think about why UM-Flint would be a good fit for them, and what they are willing to contribute towards their own success. Remember that one goal of the interview is to help students get to know the Promise Scholar Program better through a panel of faculty and staff who are familiar with its vision and mission.  Applicants should arrive on time for interviews, so pre-planning is important. You are welcome to dress in typical business attire for the interview.

What should I bring to the interview?

Applicants are encouraged to bring any additional documentation that will add value to their admissions' application to share with interviewers.

If I decline my invitation to interview, will that hurt my application?

Declining an interview invitation will negatively impact an application, and all applications are considered incomplete without an interview.
