This guide will walk you through the signing of the Promissory Note. Although the example features the Master Promissory Note, the Graduate PLUS Promissory Note and Parent PLUS Promissory Notes may be completed in a similar fashion. Signing the Promissory Note should take about 30 minutes.

1. Navigating to Studentloans.gov

Begin by navigating to studentloans.gov and clicking "Sign In". 

2. Signing In

Sign in by providing your Social Security Number, first two characters of your last name, date of birth, and your federal PIN. 

Click "Sign In" to continue.

3. Select the Promissory Note

Once logged in, select the "Complete Master Promissory Note" option as seen below. 

4. Selecting the Note

Select the appropriate Promissory Note from the list displayed below. The Subsidized/Unsubsidized Note, also known as the Master Promissory note or MPN, will be the focus of this tutorial. 

5. Personal Information

This step requires that you enter certain personal information including your driver's license, address, and other info. It is also important during this step to select UM-Flint under "School Information" as this ensures the Office of Financial Aid will receive your promissory note. 

6. References

The next portion requires that you provide contact information for two references. These must be people who will be in contact with you throughout the future. 

Once you have provided the information of two references, you may click "continue". 

7. Required Reading

Next, you must read the required reading. 

Click each plus sign button to view the material. You must read all of it by scrolling down to the end of each document. 


Review the terms and conditions, check the box, and click "continue". 

8. Review the Information

Review your information on this screen. 

If you need to edit the information, simply click the "edit" button. 

9. Signing the Note

Enter your name, middle initial, and last name. You may then sign the note by clicking "sign". 

After signing the note, you have completed the Master Promissory Note.
