What is Work Study?
The Work Study Program provides jobs for students to assist with paying for educational expenses. Awards are based on financial need.
How do I apply for Work Study?
Students interested in Work Study must indicate that they want to receive Work Study when filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
If I indicate that I want Work Study am I guaranteed Work Study funds?
No, Work Study funds are on a first come, first served basis.
Do I need to accept my Work Study award?
Yes, all Work Study awards must be accepted on SIS by September 30th.
How will I be paid?
You will receive a paycheck every two weeks based on hours worked. You will be able to earn up to the amount awarded each semester. Unlike other types of financial aid this does not get applied directly to your student account.
How do I know when I have earned my entire award?
You should keep a record of the hours that you work and the dollar amount you have earned so that you will not earn over your award. Tracking sheets for each semester are provided for you on this site.
How do I find a job?
Work study jobs will be posted on-line as they become available. See the links on the right side of the page.
Are jobs on or off campus?
Jobs are available both on and off campus. Employers for off campus jobs are nonprofit organizations or public agencies.
What is community service?
Most off campus jobs are with organizations or agencies that are nonprofit and service the community at large.
When can I start work?
You will be able to start work at the beginning of each semester as long as the necessary employment paperwork has been completed. You will be working with the department for which you find employment to complete the required paperwork.
Can I have more than one Work Study position?
Yes, you may hold more than one Work Study position simultaneously. However, you may not exceed your award for the semester. Both departments must be made aware and sign off on the employment documentation that you will be working in more than one position.
