General Education Suite/Distribution Options
What constitutes a suite?
- 2-3 courses linked in a way that includes theory and application to real problems
- Assessable strategy for course integration
Goldenrod proposes 2 types of suites:
- Disciplinary (easy to solve problem of pre-requisites)
- Interdisciplinary
Option 1: Goldenrod
Which departments go into which boxes in the Goldenrod Plan?
- What about cross-disciplinary concepts (Diversity, Ethics, Civic Engagement, Writing and Speaking) that are included in the plan or otherwise valued?
- Keep GE credits to 42 with units choosing to add more requirements and establish policy on double-counting
Humanities, society, culture & fine arts (9) | Economics, Finance & Quantitative Reasoning (6) | Health & Well-Being (6) | Science & Technology (8) | 29 credits |

Option 2: Revision unlinking boxed concepts
- Courses to be taken either in suites or as stand-alones, approved GE courses
- Suites could be comprised of courses in same semester OR one course could be pre-requisite to the other for the suite to “count”
- For courses or suites to be approved for GE:
- Should include both theory & application
- Should include an assessable work product
- Over-lay concepts such as writing/speaking intensive, ethics-orientation, civic engagement, etc. and require one or more “hits” in these areas.
- Units determine additional requirements or double-counting options
- In plan below, 30 credits required in distribution (see credit ranges)
