Suite Boxes: Where Does Your Discipline Fit?

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Tuscola Rooms, WSW

Facilitated by Donna Fry

Attendance: 4

Donna shared that the SHPS curriculum committee has met in order to do some advance planning regarding the creation of suites of courses. SHPS faculty believe that there will be programmatic shifts as there will be different gateway courses instead of the typical 100 level courses.

At the December SHPS meeting, the curriculum committee brainstormed various ideas for suites. This list was distributed to those in attendance. The idea behind sharing the list was to illustrate where SHPS departments saw themselves fitting within the boxes.

Those in attendance generated ideas about other possible suites of courses.

The following questions arose from the discussion:

·        Can a suite be within one department (example: Calculus I & II)?

·        Who would determine/how would it be determined where courses counted? (example, History of Science – would it be humanities or science?)
