Discovering Flint’s Spatial History
Dr. Dan Trepal, Post-Doctoral researcher at Michigan Tech University, discusses the Flint Archeological Spatial History (FLASH) project. The FLASH project provides a digital infrastructure to explore historical data and stories about Flint’s past. Joe Schipani presents how the Flint Public Art Project assists with placemaking and drives community and economic development in Flint. In addition, he is joined by Christina Irwin from the City of Grand Blanc to discuss the expansion of the project into Grand Blanc and plans for the future. Damon Ross, program officer at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint will present on the Neighborhood Small Grants program and how GIS/data help those grants with placemaking.

Troy Rosencrants and Nic Custer of the Office of Economic Development at the University of Michigan-Flint discuss use cases of GIS and data in supporting businesses. Sue Peters, Program Officer from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, joins to discuss data needs and potential uses in grantmaking for small businesses in our community.

Visualizing Broadband Data in Michigan
Dan Manning, Community Technology Advisor, from Connected Nation Michigan (formerly Connect Michigan) discusses the goals and process of Connected Nation Michigan as well as various data and mapping resources provided to the general public. Current projects and a short demonstration of the interactive mapping capabilities are also discussed.
