Project Description: Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a promising technology that offers solutions for low-cost broadband Internet access by extending the local area networks to
a wide area with self-organizing, self-healing and self-maintenance capabilities. One neglected area of application for WMNs in the research is the joint guaranteed delivery for QoS requests and dynamic channel assignment under multiple radios/channels. Public safety networks, crisis management, first responder networks, emergency services, inter-vehicular communications, wireless community networks, neighborhood gaming, remote surveillance and disaster management are potential areas of beneficial deployment for such networks, where the traffic originates and destines within the same WMN. Routing with multiple channels can provide better throughput and bandwidth which can eventually boost the performance of VoIP, multimedia tele-conferencing, and Video-on-demand applications. Such applications often require guaranteed services which requires special attention. Current research on QoS provisioning focuses on single-channel paradigm with static channel assignments. Our aim in this project is to investigate multi-channel, multiradio guaranteed routing in IEEE 802.11n-based WMNs.

GSRA Position Description: In light of the Project description above, the GSRA will study industry leaser QualNet simulation software. he proposer has received an academic license for QualNet already. The GSRA should be comfortable in C++ software development under Linux. Some scripting language is a plus.
Specific Day/Time Requirements: Flexible.
Special Requirements: C++, Linux and some scripting language familiarity.
