Biology (MS) - Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in biology or related life science from an accredited institution
- A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in required prerequisite courses
- Completion of the following prerequisites at an accredited university
- Cell Biology
- Ecology
- General Physics
- Genetics
- Organic Chemistry
- Statistics (recommended but not required)
Applicants who have completed a BS in Biology at UM-Flint automatically fulfill these prerequisites.
Application Process
To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit the following by the application deadline to the Office of Graduate Programs, 251 Thompson Library:
- Application for Graduate Admission (apply online or with a paper application)
- Application fee (non-refundable) payable to the University of Michigan-Flint
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- GRE scores (general test) sent to the University of Michigan-Flint Institutional Code #1853
- Statement of Purpose describing the applicant’s reasons for pursuing the degree
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals knowledgeable of the applicant’s potential for advanced academic study
- International students must submit additional documentation
Application Deadlines
The program has rolling admissions and reviews completed applications each month. To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit all application materials to the Office of Graduate Programs on or before the application deadline.
Application deadlines are as follows:

| Winter | November 15 |
| Spring | March 15 |
| Summer | May 15 |
*You must apply by the early deadline to be eligible for scholarships, grants, and research asssistantships.
International students are required to apply earlier than the deadlines posted here. The final deadlines for international students are May 1 for the fall semester, September 1 for the winter semester, and January 1 for the spring term.
