Chemistry & Biochemistry (BS/MS) - Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

  • A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  • A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale in chemistry courses.
  • BS/MS Applicants only - UM-Flint undergraduates must have completed the Organic Chemistry sequence (CHM 330, CHM 331, CHM 332, CHM 333) plus one year of general chemistry (or equivalent)
  • MS Applicants only - must have a BS or BA in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or an equivalent field


For BS/MS applicants, ACT or SAT scores, if available, may be used in the admissions process.  For MS applicants, GRE scores, if available, may be used in the admissions process.

Application Process

To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit the following by the application deadline to the Office of Graduate Programs, 251 Thompson Library:


MS Applicants: please submit GRE scores (if available) to the University of Michigan-Flint Institutional Code #1853.
 

Application Deadlines

The program has rolling admissions and reviews completed applications each month. To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit all application materials to the Office of Graduate Programs on or before the application deadline.

Application deadlines are as follows:

 Fall (early deadline*)  May 1
 Fall (final deadline)  August 1
 Winter  November 15
 Spring  March 15
 Summer  May 15

*You must apply by the early deadline to be eligible for scholarships, grants, and research asssistantships.

International students are required to apply earlier than the deadlines posted here. The final deadlines for international students are May 1 for the fall semester, September 1 for the winter semester, and January 1 for the spring term.
