Chemistry & Biochemistry (BS/MS) - Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements

A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale in chemistry courses.
- BS/MS Applicants only - UM-Flint undergraduates must have completed the Organic Chemistry sequence (CHM 330, CHM 331, CHM 332, CHM 333) plus one year of general chemistry (or equivalent)
- MS Applicants only - must have a BS or BA in Chemistry or Biochemistry
For BS/MS applicants, ACT or SAT scores, if available, may be used in the admissions process. For MS applicants, GRE scores, if available, may be used in the admissions process.
Application Process
To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit the following by the application deadline to the Office of Graduate Programs, 251 Thompson Library:

Application for Graduate Admission (apply online or with a paper application)

Application fee (non-refundable) payable to the University of Michigan-Flint

Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Three letters of recommendation. At least two must be from chemistry/biochemistry faculty familiar with the applicant's academic abilities.
- Statement of Purpose describing the applicant’s reasons for pursuing the degree

International students must submit additional documentation
MS Applicants: please submit GRE scores (if available) to the University of Michigan-Flint Institutional Code #1853.
Application Deadlines
The program reviews completed applications after the established deadlines. To be considered for admission, an applicant must submit all application materials to the Office of Graduate Programs on or before the application deadline.
Application deadlines are as follows:
