GSRA Application

GSRA applicants must be admitted to a graduate program at the University of Michigan-Flint. GSRAs must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours of graduate-level courses in each semester of appointment if appointed for Fall and/or Winter semesters, or, with the written approval of the student's faculty advisor, not less than five (5) credit hours consisting of not less than two (2) courses relevant to the student's degree program. GSRAs must be in good standing as a student in a graduate degree program and maintain a minimum graduate point average of 5.0 (B) in each semester of the appointment.

Essay
Please attach a personal essay of 250-500 words expressing your interest in and reasons for seeking the Graduate Student Research Assistantship. Please include how the positions you are applying for relate to your degree program.
Note: If applying for a personal research project not associated with a UM-Flint faculty member, you must find a UM-Flint faculty member to advise you for this project and include that person’s name and contact information in your application. You must also include information on how the research project results will be submitted for publication, used in academia or industry, or otherwise be shared with the intended audience to whom the information may be relevant.

Deliberate falsification or misrepresentation will result in a revocation of my GSRA application. By submitting this form, I authorize release of my University of Michigan-Flint educational records to the committee making the decision. I understand that I must meet the terms and conditions of the GSRA guidelines to receive an appointment.

Note: If a recipient fails to enroll, cancels, or withdraws from any term appointed as a GSRA, the GSRA appointment will be canceled and all remaining funds from the stipend will be forfeited and returned to the GSRA account. Any request for an exception to this policy must be submitted in writing to the Office of Graduate Programs prior to, or at the time of, cancellation or withdrawal. The University of Michigan-Flint Dean of Graduate Programs must approve the requests.


In addition to the application and essay, we will also take into consideration your previous graduate work at UM-Flint and may ask for a recommendation from your faculty program director. We will then compile the information and present it to the faculty member(s) assigned to supervise the positions to which you have applied. You will be notified via email and U.S. mail of the decision.
