Tips on how to survive and thrive in graduate school

The Office of Graduate Programs along with the Student Development Center are offering a series of workshops targeted for current graduate students.  These workshops are intended to provide you with tips on how to survive and thrive during graduate school.

Stress Management
The workshop will help to identify the various types of stress that effect college students.  We will discuss the physical, cognitive, emotional, and relational symptoms of stress.  Finally, various ways to manage personal sources of stress will be provided.

Time Management
College students often have multiple, competing responsibilities to meet.  We will look at how our time is used and discuss ways to better manage this limited, precious commodity.

Relaxation Training
This workshop is an introduction to stress relieving techniques including abdominal breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and positive imagery.  The benefits of practicing relaxation techniques on a regular basis will be provided.  Students will practice these techniques during the workshop.

Mentoring/Social Support Networks
During this workshop, we will discuss the importance of a strong social support network.  Students will identify members of their social support networks and how these members influence their lives.  The importance of a establishing and maintaining strong mentoring relationships will also be explored.

Each workshop will last approximately 90 minutes.  Refreshments will be provided.
