- Open Internet Explorer and enter the following address in the address bar: http://virusbusters.itcs.umich.edu/downloads/vs85.html.
- Follow the appropriate links to get the software for your operating system. When you are asked to log in use your Uniqname for the username and your Kerberos/Ann Arbor password for the password.
- Save the installation file to your desktop (or to another location that you can find).
If you are unable to access the download from the Ann Arbor website, please feel free to stop by the HelpDesk office with a flash drive so that we can give you a copy of the installation files.
After installing, McAfee VirusScan will perform a scan on your computer for any viruses. You should set aside roughly an hour for the scan to finish depending on your system specifications.
- Double-click on the installation file that you saved to your Desktop.
- McAfee VirusScan installation may take a few minutes to initialize. When you have the option, click Next.
- In the next window at the top under License expiry type, click on the drop down arrow and select Perpetual, then at the bottom click on I accept the terms in the license agreement and click on OK. Then click on Next and finally, click on Install.

- After the program has installed, a window will display stating McAfee VirusScan Enterprise setup has completed successfully. Make sure Update Now and Run On-Demand Scan are checked, and also make sure that you are connected to the internet. Click on Finish at the bottom of the window.
- McAfee VirusScan Enterprise will now check for updates and start a scan on your system. This may take a few minutes, so leave enough time for your computer to finish the scan.
- When the scan is finished, a message will pop up stating that you must restart your computer. Save all your information and click on OK, then restart your computer.
You can also come into a Helpdesk with either your laptop or a USB drive to get the software. If you bring in your laptop we can install it for you and show you how to use it. If you bring in a USB drive we can save the program there so you can go to your computer and install it from there.

It is important that you regularly update VirusScan in order to scan for more recently discovered viruses. These instructions will set VirusScan to automatically update and run at a time you select.
- Go to the Start menu, All Programs, Network Associates, select Virus Scan Console. You may get an error message the first time telling you it must be installed. Click OK, then repeat step 1.
- In the Virus Scan Console, click once on AutoUpdate, then click the Properties icon in the toolbar (1st button from the left).
- In the Task Properties window, click the Schedule button.
- Check the box to enable scheduling, then click on the Schedule tab. Select how often you want to update under Schedule Task (we suggest using weekly), then set the day and time you want it to run. The computer must be on in order for it to run, and it should only take a few minutes.
- Click OK when done, and then click on OK again.
- Back in the Virus Console, click once on Scan All Fixed Disks, then click the Properties icon in the toolbar.
- Click the Schedule tab and repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Use the red “X” in the upper right corner to close the Virus Scan Console when finished.
Sometimes you may want to run the virus scan manually or scan another drive besides your hard drive. Follow the instructions below.
- To manually run VirusScan: Go to the Start menu, Programs, Network Associates, and select Virus Scan Console.
- Right click on Scan All Fixed Disks and click on Start. This should start the scanning process.
