This Quicknote assumes that you have Windows NT Backup – Restore Utility installed if transferring to a Vista machine. If not; download and install the legacy backup utility from Microsoft website
here and follow the instructions before continuing on. (You may have to validate your copy of windows before you can download the file)
Creating a Backup file on XP 1. Start the Backup utility in Windows XP
o Click Start.
o Click All Programs.
o Click Accessories.
o Click System Tools.
o Click Backup.

Click Image to Enlarge 4. Select your desktop to save your backup file and place a name in the backup (using your name and the current date for the name of the backup is recommended) then click next.

Click Image to Enlarge If you want to do daily or weekly backups select the advance button. This will create a backup file in the location specified in specified intervals. Restoring a Backup file on Vista
1. Once the backup file is on the machine open the Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility
o Click Windows Icon.
o Click All Programs.
o Click Windows NT Backup – Restore Utility.
o Click NtBackup-RestoreUtility.
2. Click the Restore Wizard icon.

Click Image to Enlarge 4. Expand the Items to restore: field till C: appears and you’re able to check the box next to it and then click next.

6. Click OK.
Restoring a Backup file on XP 1. Once the backup file is on the machine double click the backup icon.
