ITS has been made aware in recent months of substancial loss of mail when forwarding mail to Yahoo e-mail accounts. If you have a Yahoo e-mail account that you plan to forward your mail to we highly suggest against it due to the large amounts of mail that have been reported lost. For Outlook 2007 (Full Application Version – Not Web Access):
- Make sure Mail Is selected in the list on the bottom left of the screen
- Click Tools in the toolbar at the top of the screen
- Click Rules and Alerts from the dropdown menu
- Click New Rule Under the E-mail Rule tab
- Select Check Messages When They Arrive From the third block of options entitled Start from a Blank Rule
- Click Next
- Under Step 1: Place a checkmark next to “sent to people or distribution list”
- Under Step 2: Click on “people or distribution list” and type the the e-mail address of the account you are currently logged into (the one you are forwarding) in the box next to the To: button
- Click Ok
- Click Next
- Under Step 1: Place a checkmark in the box next to “forward it to people or distribution list”
- Under Step 2: Click on “people or distribution list” and type the address in which you would like the mail to go to in the blank next to the To: button.
- Click Ok
- Place a checkmark next to delete it
- Click Next
- Step 1: Create a Name for your Rule so that you will recognize it.
- Step 2: Place a checkmark next to “Run this rule now on message already in Inbox” and “Turn on this rule”
- Click Finish
- Click Apply
- Click Run Rules Now (Found above actions in the rules and alerts window)
- Place a checkmark in the boxes of the rules you would like to run
- Next to Run in Folder you can change the folder in which to run the rule (This is handy if you have multiple folders within your account that you would like to move mail from)
- Click Run Now
- Click Close
- Click OK
For Outlook 2003 (Full Application Version – Not Web Access):
- Make sure “Mail” Is selected in the list on the bottom left of the screen

For Outlook Web Access 2007 (Used by UM-Flint Faculty and Staff):
- Login to your Webmail via mail.umflint.edu
- Click “Options” found in the top right portion of the screen
- Click “Rules” from the list on the Left
- Click “New Rule”
- Click “Create new Rule for Arriving Messages” Under the Subheading “After the message arrives”
- Click “If the message was sent or received…”
- Then Place a checkmark next to “People or Distribution Lists”
- Under Rule description click the text “people or distribution lists”
- Type the e-mail address of the account you are currently logged into (the one you are forwarding) in the box next to the To: button
- Click OK
- Under the subheading “Do the following” click “forward or redirect”
- Then click “Forward to People or Distribution lists”
- Under Rule description click the text “people or distribution lists”
- Type the address in which you would like the mail to go to in the blank next to the To: button.
- Click Ok
- Under the subheading “Do the following” click “Move, copy, or delete”
- Place a checkmark next to “Delete the Message”
- Name the Rule something that you will recognize
- Click Save
For Outlook Web Access 2003 (Used by UM-Flint Students): -
Go to your Webmail using Internet Explorer via mail.umflint.edu
- Make sure Web Access Light is NOT checked and enter your log on credentials and click Log On
- Click Rules found in the bottom left portion of the screen
- Click New found on the toolbar
- Name your Rule something that you will recognize
- Type your school email address (Uniqname@umflint.edu) in the field next to people or Distribution list
- Select Forward it to
- Type the email address you would like to forward your @umflint.edu mail to
- You can choose whether to keep a copy in your in box. It is recommended that you don't to avoid mailbox size problems.
- Click Save and Close at the top of the screen
