Forwarding (or Redirecting) Your Campus E-mail

ITS has been made aware in recent months of substancial loss of mail when forwarding mail to Yahoo e-mail accounts.  If you have a Yahoo e-mail account that you plan to forward your mail to we highly suggest against it due to the large amounts of mail that have been reported lost. For Outlook 2007 (Full Application Version – Not Web Access):

  1. Make sure Mail Is selected in the list on the bottom left of the screen
  2. Click Tools in the toolbar at the top of the screen
  3. Click Rules and Alerts from the dropdown menu
  4. Click New Rule Under the E-mail Rule tab
  5. Select Check Messages When They Arrive From the third block of options entitled Start from a Blank Rule
  6. Click Next
  7. Under Step 1: Place a checkmark next to “sent to people or distribution list
  8. Under Step 2: Click on “people or distribution list” and type the the e-mail address of the account you are currently logged into (the one you are forwarding) in the box next to the To: button
  9. Click Ok
  10. Click Next
  11. Under Step 1: Place a checkmark in the box next to “forward it to people or distribution list
  12. Under Step 2: Click on “people or distribution list” and type the address in which you would like the mail to go to in the blank next to the To: button.
  13. Click Ok
  14. Place a checkmark next to delete it
  15. Click Next
  16. Step 1: Create a Name for your Rule so that you will recognize it.
  17. Step 2: Place a checkmark next to “Run this rule now on message already in Inbox” and “Turn on this rule
  18. Click Finish
  19. Click Apply
  20. Click Run Rules Now (Found above actions in the rules and alerts window)
  21. Place a checkmark in the boxes of the rules you would like to run
  22. Next to Run in Folder you can change the folder in which to run the rule (This is handy if you have multiple folders within your account that you would like to move mail from) 
  23. Click Run Now
  24. Click Close
  25. Click OK

For Outlook 2003 (Full Application Version – Not Web Access): 

  1. Make sure “Mail” Is selected in the list on the bottom left of the screen
  2. Click “Tools” in the toolbar at the top of the screen
  3. Click “Rules and Alerts” from the dropdown menu
  4. Click “New Rule” Under the E-mail Rule tab
  5. Chose Start from a Blank Rule at the top of the window
  6. Select “Check Messages When They Arrive” 
  7. Click Next
  8. Under Step 1: Place a checkmark next to “sent to people or distribution list
  9. Under Step 2: Click on “people or distribution list” and type the the e-mail address of the account you are currently logged into (the one you are forwarding) in the box next to the To: button
  10. Click Ok
  11. Click Next
  12. Under Step 1: Place a checkmark in the box next to “forward it to people or distribution list
  13. Under Step 2: Click on “people or distribution list” and type the address in which you would like the mail to go to in the blank next to the To: button.
  14. Click Ok
  15. Place a checkmark next to delete it
  16. Click Next
  17. Click Next again
  18. Step 1: Create a Name for your Rule so that you will recognize it.
  19. Step 2: Place a checkmark next to “Run this rule now on message already in Inbox” and “Turn on this rule
  20. Click Finish
  21. Click Apply
  22. Click Run Rules Now (Found above actions in the rules and alerts window)

For Outlook Web Access 2007 (Used by UM-Flint Faculty and Staff): 

  1. Login to your Webmail via mail.umflint.edu
  2. Click “Options” found in the top right portion of the screen
  3. Click “Rules” from the list on the Left
  4. Click “New Rule
  5. Click “Create new Rule for Arriving Messages” Under the Subheading “After the message arrives
  6. Click “If the message was sent or received…”
  7. Then Place a checkmark next to “People or Distribution Lists
  8. Under Rule description click the text “people or distribution lists
  9. Type the e-mail address of the account you are currently logged into (the one you are forwarding) in the box next to the To: button
  10. Click OK
  11. Under the subheading “Do the following” click “forward or redirect
  12. Then click “Forward to People or Distribution lists
  13. Under Rule description click the text “people or distribution lists
  14. Type the address in which you would like the mail to go to in the blank next to the To: button.
  15. Click Ok
  16. Under the subheading “Do the following” click “Move, copy, or delete
  17. Place a checkmark next to “Delete the Message
  18. Name the Rule something that you will recognize
  19. Click Save
 

For Outlook Web Access 2003 (Used by UM-Flint Students):
  1. Go to your Webmail using Internet Explorer via mail.umflint.edu
  2. Make sure Web Access Light is NOT checked and enter your log on credentials and click Log On
  3. Click Rules found in the bottom left portion of the screen
  4. Click New found on the toolbar
  5. Name your Rule something that you will recognize
  6. Type your school email address (Uniqname@umflint.edu) in the field next to people or Distribution list
  7. Select Forward it to
  8. Type the email address you would like to forward your @umflint.edu mail to
  9. You can choose whether to keep a copy in your in box.  It is recommended that you don't to avoid mailbox size problems.
  10. Click Save and Close at the top of the screen
