This quicknote will assist all BlackBerry and iPhone users on creating a lock on their phone to prevent unauthorized people from accessing information stored on the phone.

Locking your BlackBerry
To create a lock on your BlackBerry please follow the steps listed below. 

  1. Go to Options
  2. Click Security
  3. Click Password
  4. Click Disable
  5. Choose Change Option
  6. Click Enable
  7. Enter a passcode of 4-14 characters
  8. Re-enter your passcode
  9. Click Change Option
  10. Select a length of time for the phone to lock Recommended is 2 min
  11. Press Escape to exit the security settings
  12. Click Yes to save the new settings


Lock the phone by selecting lock on the main screen.

Locking your iPhone
To create a lock on your BlackBerry please follow the steps listed below. 

  1. Click Settings
  2. Click General
  3. Click Auto-Lock
  4. Choose 1 or 2 minutes for the Auto-Lock Time
  5. Click Settings in the top left of the screen
  6. Choose Passcode Lock
  7. Enter a 4-digit code Recommendation: Do not use any of your SSN, Phone Number, or Birthday
  8. Re-enter the number when prompted
  9. Click Require Passcode
  10. Select Immediately
  11. Click Erase Data
  12. Click Yes


To lock your phone when not in use press the Sleep/Wake button at the top right corner.
