    This quicknote will assist all BlackBerry and iPhone users on creating a lock on their phone to prevent unauthorized people from accessing information stored on the phone.

    This quicknote will assist Faculty and Staff and UM-Flint with creating a link between their iPhone or BlackBerry and their Microsoft Exchange account so that in the unfortunate event that their iPhone is lost or stolen all data can be removed remotely.

    Using Group Share at UM-Flint

    Group Share is a program that helps to reduce the risk of compromised data.  This program, once installed, will allow you to encrypt any folder of your choosing with the simple click of a mouse.  Group Share also allows you to decide who has access to this information.

    Email Encryption at UM-Flint

    The following quicknote will provide information to Students, Faculty, and Staff here at UM-Flint about email encryption here on campus.

    This quicknote will assist Faculty and Staff members with setting up a spam filter in Outlook Web Access (OWA) 2007. 

    Phishing emails are a subset of SPAM emails that request passwords and other personal information from campus users.  Do not respond to any Phishing email.  Due to the nature of how many security problems Phishing emails can cause, ITS may request internet headers so that they can try to prevent users from responding to these emails as well as filtering these emails out of circulation so that users won't receive them.

    The Emergency Alert System is a new system setup by the university to inform the campus community of immediate dangers and emergencies on campus.  To utilize this system, you must register your phone numbers/emails through SIS.  It is strongly encouraged that all students sign up for the Emergency Alert System.

    Computer viruses are software applications that are designed and written to destroy or corrupt data.

    What is Spyware?

    Spyware is a type of malware (malicious software) that acquires personal information from your computer and reports it to another computer system or user without your knowledge or permission.
