This network has been tested and proven compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion).

Please note: All Staff and Students should use MWireless for the best wireless experience, the MGuest Network should only be used for patrons that do not have a UM-Flint Login account.

Connecting to the MWireless Network

1. In the top bar click the wireless icon. This is typically found in the top right near the clock.
2. Click Join Other Network
3. In the new dialog box next to Network Name type MWireless
   • For the security type select WPA2 Enterprise
   • Next to Username type your uniqname@umflint.edu
   • Next to password type your LAN password
   • Check Remember this Network
4. Click Join 
   
5. In the Verify Certificate message box click show certificate
6. Confirm that the box next to Always trust *.umflint.edu is checked
7. Click Continue 
   
8. Type your computer password in the new message box
9. Click Update Settings to make changes to the Certificate Trust Settings.
10. Wait while the computer connects. 
    
11. Your computer should now be connected to MWireless.

Outlook 2011 has replaced Entourage in the Mac Office Suite for 2011.

This quicknote will assist you with configuring Outlook 2011 for use with the UM-Flint Exchange Server.

You do not need to be connected to the VPN to use Outlook 2011.

Note: Tested and Compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Configuring Outlook 2011 for Exchange:

1. Open Outlook 2011
2. Click Outlook in the top left corner
3. Click Preferences
4. Click Accounts, found under Personal Settings
   
5. Click the plus sign in the bottom left corner of the screen
6. For E-mail Address type: uniqname@umflint.edu
7. For Method select User Name and Password
8. For Username type: uniqname@umflint.edu
9. For Password type your LAN Password
10. Check Configure Automatically
11. Click Add Account
    
12. Wait for a few moments and the account should add. 
    • If the information box comes back asking for a server type the server address as email.umflint.edu
13. You should now be connected and syncing mail.  Depending on the size of your mailbox the process of syncing your mail could take 10 minutes or more.

After the move to Exchange 2010 Entourage will need to be upgraded to the Entourage Web Services Edition.

Note: Tested and Compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Step 1 – Update Office 2008

1. Open Entourage
2. Click Help
3. Click Check for Updates
4. Install any updates that are available for Office 2008

Step 2 – Download and Install

1. Open a web browser and navigate to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=f11ec229-718e-4353-a6a7-f3b97015622f&displaylang=en
2. Download the file EWS-1308-EN.dmg
3. Install Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition
4. Follow the Installation prompts to finish the installation procedure

Step 3 – Finish Configuation and Check Entourage Settings (For users who previously had Entourage configured):

1. Open Entourage
2. Choose to Import from Entourage 2008 and follow the directions.
3. Importing all data from Entourage 2008 could take 10-15 minutes and maybe even longer if you have a lot of data

Once the import is done you will need to check to make sure the server was updated.

1. Open Entourage
2. Click Entourage (found in the top left of the screen)
3. Click Account Settings
4. Double Click your UM-Flint Account
5. Click Advanced
6. The Server Name is email.umflint.edu
7. Click Okay to all open windows
8. Your mail should begin syncing momentarily.  It make take 10-15 minutes for your mail to sync with the system, sometimes longer depending on the amount of mail you have.

Step 3 – Configure Entourage (For users who did not previously have Entourage configured):

1. Click the Entourage 2008 icon from the dock.
2. Select “Start using Entourage without importing anything” and click the Right Arrow to continue
3. Enter your uniqname@umflint.edu in the E-mail address field and click the Right Arrow to continue.
4. Enter umflint.edu in the Domain field.
5. Enter your Uniqname in the Account ID field.
6. Enter your LAN Password in the Password field.
7. Check the “Save password in my Mac OS keychain” checkbox.
8. Click OK on the Account Confirmation box.
9. Click the Right Arrow on the Automatic Configuration Succeeded dialog
10. Enter your Name in the Name Field.
11. Click the Right Arrow in the Verify and Complete Settings Dialog box.
12. Click the Right Arrow in the Verify Settings Dialog box
13. Click the Verify button in the “Do you want to verify your account settings?” dialog.
14. Click the Right Arrow in the Verify Settings dialog.
15. Click the Finish button in the Setup Complete dialog.

ITS supports the Mail client built into OSX for Mail version 4.4 or higher.

Setting Up Mail With UM-Exchange:

Here are the directions for setting up Mac Mail with UM-Exchange

1. Remove the current account for Exchange if there is one. The minus sign will remove the account.
2. Click the plus sign to add another account
3. Fill in the information like below.  You will use your LAN password for the password field
4. Click Continue
5. It should grab all of the information
6. Click Create
7. Wait a few minutes. It will take between 10-15 on average, but it may take longer depending on the size of your mailbox.

If you are off campus, you must first connect to the VPN before attempting this Quicknote. To use the steps below you must be useing VPN Network Connect. For directions on using the VPN and the Network Connect function please reference the quicknote entitled “How to Access and Use the VPN at UM-Flint” found in the Networking and Collaboration category.

Configure Homedrive access on your Mac:

1. Click Finder on the dock.
   
2. Click Go on the menu bar.
   
3. Click Connect to Server on the Go menu.
   
4. In the Server Address field, type the following
   1. For Students – smb://141.216.3.67/home/uniqname
   2. For Faculty and Staff – smb://141.216.3.55/home/uniqname
5. Click Connect on the Connect to Server window.
   
6. When prompted, enter your uniqname and password
7. Click Connect.
   
8. Your homedrive will now be listed in the Finder Sidebar under homedrive/home

1. Go To http://safecomputing.umich.edu/antivirus
2. Select the appropriate  Sophos Anti-Virus program for your computer.
3. Login using your Uniqname and your Kerberos Password

1. After logging in a dmg file will download to your computer.
2. Double-click the dmg file to begin installation.
3. In the install window that opens, click Continue.
   
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.  When it asks you where to install the files make sure that your startup volume is selected (it should be selected by default) before clicking Continue.
   
5. After clicking Install you will be prompted to log in.  In order to continue the installation you must be an administrator on the Mac.  If you do not have administrator rights, contact someone who does to complete the installation.
6. When a message appears saying the software was successfully installed, click Close.

Configuring Sophos Anti-Virus for the Proxy:

This process is only required for machines on-campus.  If you are setting up Sophos on your home Mac, you do not need to complete this section.

1. On the Apple menu bar click on the Sophos Anti-Virus Icon.
2. Open Preferences
3. In the Preferences Window:
   • Unlock Window (bottom left corner).
   • Choose AutoUpdate.
   • Choose Use system proxy settings.
4. Lock Window.
5. Exit.

Operating Sophos Anti-Virus:

To scan a whole drive:

1. Open Sophos Anti-Virus by clicking on the Shield Icon in the menu bar and selecting Open Sophos Anti-Virus.
2. Select the drives you wish to scan by clicking on the circle next to them (selected drives will have a green circle next to them).  Make sure all drives are selected that you wish to scan and then press the Play button (green triangle) to begin the scan.
   
3. Once the scan is complete Sophos will report the results of the scan in the area below the white space.
   
4. Quit from Sophos Anti-Virus after reviewing the results of the scan.
