Backing up favorites in Internet Explorer

Exporting favorites from Internet Explorer

  1. Click File in menu bar.
    • If you do not see the menu bar, press the ALT key on the keyboard while in Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Import and Export… in file menu

  3. When the Import/Export Wizard opens, click next

  4. Select Export Favorites then click Next

  5. Select the Favorites folder then click Next

  6. Select Export to a File or Address and choose a location to save the file to then click Next.

  7. Click Finish.

  8. If everything has exported correctly, you will see a confirmation dialog box. Click OK.

You should now have a backup of your favorites saved in the previously selected location.  Be sure to keep this in a safe location for importing to Internet Explorer at a later date.

Importing favorites into Internet Explorer

  1. Click File in menu bar.
    • If you do not see the menu bar, press the ALT key on the keyboard while in Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Import and Export… in file menu.

  3. When the Import/Export Wizard opens, click next

  4. Select Import Favorites then click Next.

  5. Select Import from a File or Address then click Browse

  6. The Select Bookmark File window will open.  Navigate to the location of the file you exported from the export wizard (default : bookmarks.htm), select the file and click open.

  7. Select the Favorites folder then click Next.

  8. Click Finish.

  9. If everything has imported correctly, you will see a confirmation dialog box. Click OK.

Your favorites are now imported into Internet Explorer.
