DUK Race - October 28, 2008

Rubber duckies became a symbol of something other than baths and Sesame Street for the University of Michigan-Flint in the Fall of 2008.  Using a theme of “Do You Know?” DUK became a powerful symbol for building awareness of the accreditation process for the campus.  Using guerilla marketing techniques, a “teaser” campaign using just a bright yellow duck posing the question “Do You Know” were posted around campus.  Those posters were followed up with information regarding the kick-off to the countdown for the visit of the Higher Learning Commission in October 2009.  The entire campus community were invited to a celebration on October 28 featuring autumnal treats, live music and performances and a duck race on the Flint River.  And as the last duck was fished out of the water on that cold day, the race is officially on to be ready for the visit next year. Stay on the lookout for more DUKS!
